| Q: Is Bigmow® safe?
|
| A: The Bigmow® is much safer than
a normal lawnmower thanks to its in-built touch sensor, bumper impact
sonar and fully-shrouded cutting assembly with retractable blades. |
| Q: What happens if Bigmow®
turns over during mowing? |
| A: It will simply turn itself
on to security mode until it can be put back onto its wheels. |
| Q: I have a hilly garden.
What is the maximum gradient that Bigmow® can climb? |
| A: Bigmow® can climb slopes of
up to 30 per cent. |
| Q: How long does it take to
recharge the batteries? |
| A: Between 1 hour 30 minutes and 2
hours, depending on ambient temperature, the condition of the batteries
and the distance of the recharging station from the mains supply. |
| Q: For how long does it mow
between charges? |
| A: Up to 2 hours. |
| Q: How does Bigmow® cope
with mole hills? |
| A: Moles don't like continuous movement
above them so it is most unlikely that you will see a mole hill
when you are using a Bigmow® to cut your grass. Otherwise there
are two possibilities: Any mole hill higher than 15cm (6in) will
be detected by the bumper and the machine will steer around the mole
hill. Any molehill less than 15cm high will either be driven over
by Bigmow® or the mole hill may block and stop the revolving
mowing head. If this happens, the machine will shut-down automatically.
Probably best to clear the area of any mole hills before putting
Bigmow®
to work. |
| Q: How does Bigmow® cope
with long grass? |
| A: Bigmow® is designed specifically
for keeping grass areas neat and tidy through regular mowing. If the
grass has grown longer than 120mm (4¾ in), it is advisable
that it be cut with a ride-on rotary mower before putting Bigmow®
to work. Although Bigmow® can be set to cut at a maximum height
of 95mm (3¾ in), the machine may experience difficulty coping
with long, matted grass. |
| Q: Can Bigmow® work in
the rain? |
| A: Absolutely. However, you might
have to dry the sonar with a paper towel or cloth after heavy rain. |
| Q: I have two separate lawn
areas. How do I cut them with Bigmow®? |
| A: No problem. The only requirement
is to have a passage between the two areas with a minimum width of
5m (16½ft) to allow the Bigmow® to move automatically from
one area to the other. |
| Q: Can the height of cut be
adjusted? |
| A: Yes, from 22mm to 95mm (a little
under 1in to 3¾). |
| Q: Will Bigmow® cut to
the very edge of my lawn? |
| A: If your lawn has planted borders
within it or around it, you might have to trim the last few centimetres
of the lawn with a strimmer. |
| Q: What is the warranty on
Bigmow®? |
| A: Two years on all components apart
from batteries and cutting blades. |
| Q: What is Bigmow’s
width of cut? |
| A: 105cm (42in). |
| Q: Why do you say that it
is good for my lawn not to collect the clippings? |
| A: Because grass clippings contain
nitrogen. The size of the clippings produced by very regular cutting
with Bigmow® will break down quickly, returning nitrogen as a
fertiliser to the soil, boosting grass health, strength and appearance. |
| Q: I have an old deaf dog
that falls asleep on my lawn. Is he safe when Bigmow® is working?
|
| A: It really depends on the size
of the dog when lying on the ground. If the dog is higher than 40cm
(16in), it will be detected by the machine’s sonar. If the
dog is between 40cm and 15cm (16in - 6in) high, the Bigmow® will
touch it at full speed and will manoeuvre around it. If the dog is
less than 15cm (6in) high when lying down, it would be sensible to
keep it away from the lawn when Bigmow® is working. However,
we have never had any complaints from our customers and never heard
of injuries resulting from the use of the Bigmow®. |
| Q: Can my children play when
the BigMow® is at work? |
| A: Yes, that’s one of the main
advantages of the Bigmow® when compared with a normal mower. However,
parents should bear in mind that although the machine can “detect”
children playing on a lawn, Bigmow® is not a toy. Sitting on it
can damage the suspension and bodywork. |
| Q: What happens if there is
a power cut to the perimeter wire? Does the BigMow® escape? |
| A: No, the Bigmow® is set on “Security
Mode” during unattended mowing which means that it won’t
move beyond the perimeter wire and will simply stop working. |
| Q: I have paths running through
my lawn. Will the Bigmow® be OK? |
| A: Yes, but the installer will need
to take them into account when laying the perimeter cable. |
| Q: Where's the best place
to locate the charging station? |
| A: The recharging station needs to
be installed at the largest or widest part of the lawn, with the
widest angle on both sides of the recharging station. A minimum
of 15m (50ft) should be allowed between the recharging station and
the cable installed on the opposite side of the grass area. |
| Q: How long will the batteries
last before they need replacing? |
| A: From 1 up to 2 years when regularly
cutting 2 hectares (5acres) of grass. |
| Q: Can I sharpen the blades
myself? |
| A: No, they cannot be sharpened as
they are housed within a special retractable assembly. |
| Q: What is the maximum area
I can maintain with a Bigmow®? |
A:
The maximum area that can be covered by the machine is 2 hectares (5 acres).
The minimum recommended area is
1/3 ha ( ¾ acre). |
| Q: What are Bigmow’s
maintenance requirements? |
| A: We recommend that the machine has
a full service during the winter and an inspection service during
the season to check on its general condition, safe and correct operation
and the state of the blades. |
