If you’ve got between half an acre and five acres of grass that needs cutting on a regular basis, then you’ll know only too well that it can be a time-consuming and costly job.

It can also be very frustrating. Miss just one week’s cut due to bad weather, illness or holidays and you’ve got a load of extra grass clippings to deal with.

At the height of the growing season, disposal of clippings is no simple matter either for those who are able to cut their grass without fail every week.

Leaving the residues from lush grass on the ground takes time to break down, looks unsightly and can cause pest and disease problems and yellowing of the fresh growth beneath. Cut and collect all of the grass every time and your composting area could soon be overwhelmed with the result of the mowings. In fact, tidy and responsible disposal of clippings is now proving a dilemma for gardeners with lawns of any size to maintain.

Enter Bigmow® – the simple and cost-effective solution for anyone who is regularly mowing formal or semi-formal grass areas of between half an acre and five acres (2,000 – 20,000 sq metres) in size.

Powered by rechargeable batteries and prevented from straying by a low voltage perimeter wire, the computer-controlled Bigmow® is able to cut all your grass at any time of the day or night – without anyone needing to be present. All you have to do is set Bigmow® on its way and it will mow happily and silently all of the grass growing within a pre-defined area “controlled” by perimeter wire, buried out of sight around the edge of the grass area.

And when Bigmow®’s batteries need recharging, the machine returns and connects automatically to its charging station, discretely located along the peripheral wire adjacent to the lawn. Approximately two hours later - with its batteries fully recharged - Bigmow® sets off automatically on a new mowing cycle.

Because it can work totally unattended, detecting and steering itself around obstacles and obstructions, Bigmow® is able to mow continuously every day (and night, if required), maintaining the grass at lengths from 22mm to 95mm (0.8in - 3¾ in). Cutting height is easily adjusted on a 12-position control rod to suit the final finish required.

Using Bigmow® to regularly trim small amounts of grass growth means that the clippings are never more than fine particles which are able to decompose rapidly within the lawn and the soil beneath, eliminating any build-up of cut grass or the need to collect and compost. As a further bonus, returning the clippings to the sward helps improve the fertility of the grass, reducing the need for fertiliser treatments.

So there you have it! A revolution in the maintenance of large lawns . . .
and it’s in the UK now, ready to go to work on your larger grass areas this season.

Turfmech will be delighted to provide guidance and advice on Bigmow® suitability for your large grass area(s). The company provides also a full installation service for the perimeter control wire together with comprehensive user training and start-up commissioning.
